Specific Rules For Contests And Events
The new bill proposed will require compliance with numerous rules for professional contests and amateur events, many of which are particular to the type of unarmed combat being featured. These rules are described in detail in the full text of the bill. Generally, the rules cover such subjects as:
- Weigh-in procedure for contests
- Pre-contest and post-contest medical and drug screenings
- Presence of emergency medical personnel at contests
- Prohibition against illegal drug use and doping during training and competition
- Reporting prescription medication to ringside physician
- Prohibition against use of creams and ointments
- Size and configuration of rings
- Fouls
- Weight divisions
- Disqualification procedure
- Contest or even length, in rounds and time
- Methods for determining winner
- Combatant dress code
- Roles of officials
- Other general rules
This bill authorizes the commission to order a promoter to withhold any part of a purse or money payable to a combatant if the commission believes that the combatant, or combatant's manager or second, violated any rules. A hearing would be held to determine the disposition of any funds withheld from a contest purse or payout pursuant to this bill.
